The Tiger football program has quietly gone about its business and is heading to its fourth straight State championship game on Friday. The team is much like its coach, Chris Homer. Intense, with a desire to be their best and yet not jump in your face to tell you how good they are. If you have the opportunity to spend time with Coach Homer you realize why the program does so well. He is fun to be around. Some may look and criticize him for having so many coaches around him. The thing is he has gained the respect from the community and everyone wants to help out where they can.
Coach Homer is not one to tear down a person but build them up, make them better for having been involved with the program whether it is a player or an adult helper. Coach Homer makes you feel like you are the very needed piece to make the program work. He will be the first to tell you that it is not him, rather everyone around him that has made the Hurricane Tiger football program the success that it is. To a certain degree it is, but all great programs need a great leader and you can find that in Coach Homer. It is hard to remember that at one time his Tiger team went 1-8 for the season. The Tiger players are as their coach, give your best effort, be humble and great things will happen.
As Coach Homer and his assistants lead their team up to Rice-Eccles stadium their is one thing that you can count on come Friday night. They will do everything they can to win the game but more importantly Coach Homer will do even more to make sure his young men win the game of life. Here is to safe travel to and from the game as well as safety to the players on the field. Thank you Hurricane High Football team and coaches for another wonderful year! Thank you fans for your support.
